Journey with obstacles – airport coffee instead of canal idyll

It was a Whitsun trip with obstacles! “Krone” editor Jasmin Gaderer experienced travel chaos at Pentecost. Four days in Amsterdam in June, that sounded less and less idyllic in the weeks before – reports of problems at airports were piling up.

And indeed, it got to us too: At the airport in Schwechat, the early-morning cup of coffee quickly turned into three as the delay of the Austrian plane got longer and longer. When we were finally on the plane, the pilot immediately dampened the euphoria: “It will be a while before we can take off.” What does that have to do with Vienna? In the Netherlands, the planes had to wait for the passengers who were checked in too late and so couldn’t free up a “parking space” for us. The return flight was also delayed. Finally, we still enjoyed the canal idyll and Stroopwaffels – the airport chaos was the talk of the town in Amsterdam. We were also two hours late on the return flight, this time without an apology from the airline – apparently it was “business as usual”. Tip for everyone who is still booking: direct and early flights minimize the risk of being stranded at a gate
