Joyn loses TV channels and content: The streaming service offers you this in return

JOYN

Streaming service Joyn loses TV channels and content from the Discovery family and now has a reduced range. To compensate, however, subscribers also get something for free.

Joyn leaves feathers: Discovery has begun the exodus of its channels and content to its own streaming service Discovery+. (Source: Screenshot/netzwelt)

  • Joyn subscribers with Plus membership have had to do without the pay-TV channels Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Eurosport 2 since November.
  • The free TV channels DMAX, Eurosport 1, HGTV, Tele 5 and TLC will initially remain in the Joyn program, but the Food Network and MotorTrend are no longer included.
  • To make up for the lack of channels and content, Joyn Plus+ customers will be able to stream the ad-supported version of Discovery+ for one year free of charge.

It was actually only a matter of time: Since Discovery+, the US entertainment giant’s own streaming service, has started in Germany, Joyn is losing channels and content from the Discovery family in Germany.

The pay-TV stations at Joyn Plus+ are specifically affected: Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Eurosport 2 have not been part of the former joint venture between the Discovery Group (now Warner Bros. Discovery) and ProSiebenSat.1 since November. The latter media group is now solely responsible for Joyn – and was able to keep Discovery as a content partner despite the exit.

Also interesting…

In plain language, this means that the free TV channels DMAX, Eurosport 1, HGTV, Tele 5 and TLC can still be found in Joyn’s linear offer, but the current content of the respective channels only stays open for one week after TV broadcast Retrieval available as a catch-up.

The omission of Discovery’s pay-TV offer at Joyn is a severe blow for the paying customers of Joyn Plus+ – but a consolation seems to have already been found: According to information available to Netzwelt, the streaming service wants its paying customers to compensate for the lost channels Grant one year of complimentary access to the lower-priced ad-supported offering of Discovery+.
