Judgment made – boy drowned in creek: woman found guilty

On Friday, the Eisenstadt Regional Court ruled against a 26-year-old woman who was accused of grossly negligent homicide. A little boy had fallen into a stream and drowned the previous year while the woman was on the phone with the child’s mother.

As reported, the accident happened on August 23 in Langeck. The young woman was traveling with the two-year-old and her own son (6) on a supply road in the direction of a bridge. The 26-year-old was only a few meters behind the boys when she received a call from the child’s mother. The two-year-old sat on the edge of the bridge, which was flooding at the time, and fell into the water. The boy died. Eight fire brigades and several special divers searched for the little one for hours with the support of ÖAMTC emergency medical helicopters and air traffic police. Unsuccessful: In the end, the two-year-old could only be found dead. Imprisonment and fine In court, the companion pleaded not guilty, saying she did not know about the flooding. The judge disagreed and spoke of gross negligence. The woman was sentenced to six months imprisonment. In addition, she has to pay a fine of 720 euros and 5,000 euros in grief compensation to the parents.
