The tension is rising: under massive security precautions, the court will make the verdict in the Rocker trial today.

Because Hells Angels and the Bandidos are at war, the Bern administration building is like a fortress today. Under massive security precautions, the Bern-Mittelland regional court announced the verdict in the rocker trial in the morning, which has been making headlines across Switzerland for weeks.

The Hells Angels mark their presence: well over 200 motorbike rockers gathered on the Schützenmatte by eight o’clock. As an SRF reporter observed on site, there are significantly more than when the process started at the end of May. Their rivals, the Bandidos, have not yet appeared.

The police have been present in front of the Bern office building since the early hours of the morning with a massive police presence, and the court is cordoned off.

The trial of 22 rockers, two of whom are charged with attempted murder, one with aggravated assault and all with racketeering, began at the end of May. At that time, the hostile motorcycle gangs clashed on the Schützenmatte.

Riots at Rocker trial in Bern

The police had to keep the motorbike rockers away from each other with a water cannon. The next day they even beat each other at the entrance to the court. Traffic at the Bern bulwark was blocked for hours. The Bern security director Reto Nause even called for a relocation of the trial location.

The indictment is asking for 9.5 years in prison for the main suspect, who is already serving parole. The court will announce the penalties later in the morning.
