No retirement despite “terrible” eye problems

Despite advanced eye disease: Judi Dench does not think about the acting pension. She wants to keep working as much as possible.
Judi Dench (88) does not want to be slowed down by her serious eye problems. Despite her progressive macular degeneration, the actress wants to continue working: “As much as I can”, she told British newspaper The Mirror.
In 2012, the Oscar winner was diagnosed with the age-related, incurable disease of the retina. The ability to see in the area of sharpest vision is lost.

“I can’t see anything anymore on a film set,” revealed Judi Dench now. She can no longer read screenplays either. “But you have to deal with it,” she said. “Go on” is now her watchword. Although longer roles in particular pose problems for her.
Dench used to be able to rely on her photographic memory to learn text. Now she has not yet found a way to acquire dialogues. Although she has many friends who read her scripts.
“Terrible” to be dependent on others
But Judi Dench finds it “terrible” to be dependent on other people. She admitted this three years ago in an interview with British Vogue. She had to hand in her driver’s license and her partner had to pre-cut the food on her plate.
