Barack and Michelle Obama have signed on as producers for the Netflix film “Leave the World Behind,” starring Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali.
The former US presidential couple Barack (60) and Michelle Obama (58) have built a successful career outside of politics in recent years. Her deal to produce exclusive content for the streaming provider Netflix with her company Higher Ground is once again bearing well-known fruits. As reported by The Hollywood Reporterthey have taken on a film adaptation of the novel “Leave the World Behind” by Rumaan Alam (45).
According to the report, the male and female lead roles are each played by Oscar-winning stars: Julia Roberts (54), who was named “Best Actress” for “Erin Brockovich” in 2001. And Mahershala Ali (48), who even got two gold boys for “Moonlight” and “Green Book” – each as a supporting actor.
That’s what “Leave the World Behind” is about
The novel follows a married couple and their two children who decide to vacation together in a rented home on Long Island. But then the owners of the house suddenly appear and claim that a sudden blackout has thrown the entire city into chaos. As strange happenings multiply outside the house, the two families inside grow more and more at odds.
In addition to Roberts and Ali, Ethan Hawke (51) and Myha’la Herrold (26) will also be seen in leading roles. Sam Esmail (44), the creator of “Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming”, could be won as a director. In the latter series he already worked together with Roberts.
