Julia Roberts and Sean Penn are unrecognizable as married couple Martha and John Mitchell in the Watergate series “Gaslit”.
The first photos and the Trailer of the new miniseries “Gaslit” with Julia Roberts (54) and Sean Penn (61) are published. The series about the Watergate scandal – and Martha Mitchell’s role in it – is available from April 24 on the Starzplay streaming service.
Fringe of hair and double chin
The high-profile leads were completely transformed for their roles. While Roberts is barely recognizable as Martha Mitchell with her famous lips despite her blond hairstyle, viewers have to look at Penn several times. The actor who played John Mitchell only wears a ring of gray hair – and a double chin.
In the series, based on the Slow Burn podcast, Penn plays the former Attorney General and Roberts his wife. As an “unexpected whistleblower,” she exposes the illegal activities in the White House and becomes the target of a smear campaign. The Watergate scandal ousted President Nixon from office in 1974.
