Julian Nagelsmann accepted the challenge. He is now officially the new national coach of the German national soccer team.

Julian Nagelsmann (36) is now officially the new national coach of the German national soccer team. Confirmed on Friday morning the DFB with a press release that Nagelsmann had signed a contract at the DFB campus in Frankfurt am Main until July 31, 2024. The “dream candidate” of Rudi Völler (63) is now officially the successor to his predecessor Hansi Flick (58).

Nagelsmann: “We will be a tight-knit group”

Next year, the European Football Championship will be held in Germany – an event that the entire DFB is looking forward to. Nagelsmann himself stated in his first official statement as national coach: “We have a European Championship in our own country. That is something special – something that happens every few decades. I agree with this fact of having a great tournament in a great country I’m really keen to take on this challenge. The appearance in Dortmund was the beginning. We’ll be a close-knit group next year.”

To support Nagelsmann, he has two well-known coaching colleagues at his side: Sandro Wagner (35) will support him as assistant coach, and Benjamin Glück (37) will support him. He was already at FC Bayern Munich as an assistant coach in Nagelsmann’s team. Wagner, on the other hand, supported the national team alongside Völler and Hannes Wolf in the recent 2-1 win against France in Dortmund.

“We want to inspire people with good football”

In the first press conference on Friday there were further statements that made it clear that there was great anticipation for the upcoming European Championship: “The goal of playing a good European Championship at home is an extreme incentive. We want to inspire the nation with good football. We will have the right to play attractive football,” “Bild” quotes Julian Nagelsmann’s first words as the new DFB coach.
