Julianne Moore sharply criticized the expression “aging gracefully” in an interview. This is sexist and judgmental.
Julianne Moore (60) has no use for the term “aging gracefully”. In an interview with “As If” magazine the actress explains the reason for her dislike: “There is so much judgment in it. Is there an unworthy way of aging?” asks Moore. The term is also “totally sexist” as it is often used to make women feel that getting older must be a negative thing.
Nobody has a choice about aging, so be it neither positive nor negative, Moore continues. It is part of human existence. “Why do we always talk about it like it’s something we are in control of?”
Personal development is much more important
Instead, people should think about how they could support their “inner growth”, emphasizes the Oscar winner. One should ask oneself again and again questions: “How do we continue to challenge ourselves, how are we interested in learning new things, in helping other people more, in being the person their friends and family need and want? we through life to have even deeper experiences? That is what aging should be about. “
