Julie Powell has died at the age of 49. The food blogger and author became known through her book “Julie & Julia”.

Julie Powell (1973-2022) died on October 26 at the age of 49. Her husband confirmed this to the “New York Times”. The author and blogger passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at her home in Olivebridge, New York.

A blog project becomes a film

In the early 2000s, Powell became known for her blog Julie/Julia Project. Bored with her job, the secretary set herself the task of cooking all the recipes from Julia Child’s (1912-2004) “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” in one year. Her outspoken and mostly humorous posts quickly garnered a following, and Powell was hailed as one of the first stars of food blogging.

The book resulting from the project “Julie & Julia: 365 days, 524 recipes and 1 tiny kitchen” was published in 2005 and served Nora Ephron (1941-2012) for a film adaptation. The 2009 comedy film juxtaposes the cooking career of Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep, 73) with the ambitious blogging venture of Julie Powell (Amy Adams, 48). In 2009, Powell published a second book, Cleaving: a Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession.
