July 14: Emmanuel Macron flew with the Patrouille de France before the parade


The President of the Republic flew over Paris aboard an Alpha Jet ahead of the parade. A great first for a French head of state.

Emmanuel Macron version Top Gun. On July 8, a few days before the July 14 parade, the President of the Republic visited the Patrouille de France, during a trip to Vélizy-Villacoublay airport. According to BFMTV, the president even flew aboard an Alpha Jet, a great first for a French head of state.

On Twitter, Emmanuel Macron published a video on Wednesday July 13 on board one of the aircraft flying over Paris. “I can testify to this: our soldiers are ready for tomorrow and we will be there to tell them how proud we are.“, he wrote enigmatically, without explicitly specifying that he was on board the plane. It was the Air Force spokesperson who confirmed this information to our colleagues from BFMTV.

A carefully staged visit

In Villacoublay, Emmanuel Macron largely staged his visit to the Patrouille de France, under the lens of his official photographer, Soazig de la Moissonnière. On her Instagram account, the latter published several photos of the president version Peter Mitchell, alias “Maverick”, the famous fighter pilot of Top Gun played by Tom Cruise. We see the Head of State wearing a crest “President of the Republic – Emmanuel Macron – Patrouille de France“, helmeted aboard an Alpha Jet or even discussing in aviator uniform with pilots under the setting sun.

As every year, the Patrouille de France will fly over Paris, but also Marseille this Thursday, July 14. Emmanuel Macron will reconnect with the traditional national holiday television interview, to which he has only complied once since his first election in 2017.
