Jurassic World 4: Dino sequel loses director – can the film still start on time?

ENTERTAINMENT

The “Jurassic World” trilogy with Chris Pratt ended in 2022, but Universal doesn’t want to waste any time and now a new dinosaur blockbuster is to follow – only a director is missing.

The quality of “Jurassic World: A New Age” can be debated, but the conclusion to the “Jurassic World” trilogy was undoubtedly successful. Reason enough for Universal not to let the dinosaurs die out for long and to start working on another film.

In fact, a script has already been written in secret that all producers seem to like; in any case, a quick theatrical release on July 2, 2025 is planned. The story of the new film comes from David Koepp, who wrote the scripts for “Jurassic Park” and “Forgotten World: Jurassic Park”.

Sequel or reboot?

According to THR, the film heralds a “new Jurassic era”, but the continued title “Jurassic World” suggests that Universal is not planning a reboot, but simply a kind of spin-off.

Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum are not expected to return. In “Jurassic World: A New Age” humanity has to come to terms with the fact that dinosaurs are now populating the earth again, which is probably the starting point of the new film.

It was only announced on February 5, 2024 that David Leitch was chosen by Universal as director, who had already shot “Atomic Blonde”, “Deadpool 2” and “Bullet Train”, among others. Now, just four days later, Leitch has already left the project, Deadline reports. The reason given was “different ideas”.

Now Universal has to act quickly because time is soon running out. A blockbuster of this magnitude has to be meticulously planned and elaborately shot, followed by the lengthy post-production process. In order not to endanger the planned cinema release in summer 2025, the search for a new director should not take long – and then it will be time for the castings.

The animated series “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” will start on Netflix in 2024, which acts as a sequel to “Jurassic World: New Adventures” and could also build a link to the new film. We’ll find out whether that happens over the course of the year.
