Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is the star of the moment

Unless you live in a beautiful air-conditioned cave, you couldn’t have missed the craze around Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. After a series of unsubtle teasers and an official announcement several days ago, the game was finally shown in a much more concrete way during the Xbox Games Showcase on the evening of June 9. The opportunity to confirm that the latter will come out from the October 25, 2024 on Game Pass, but also on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Thanks to the first information revealed by Activision and Treyarch, we were able to discover that the game is intended to be close to what was done a few years ago, like a real return to basics. This is the case for the famous zombie mode, but also for the multiplayer mode which promises particularly dynamic movements notably thanks to the possibility of sprinting in all directions. Thanks to our special correspondents who were able to play it on site in Los Angeles, we can already tell you that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 looks damn exciting.

Despite the temporal proximity, this historical drama will not be in the game

We understood this from the first teasers revealed for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the game will take place during the Gulf War in the 1980s. This was notably confirmed thanks to the first videos which featured major political figures of this period such as George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, even Saddam Hussein. Based on this observation, some players began to believe that this next FPS would tackle a particularly traumatic historical drama for Americans and the rest of the world: the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001. Of course, the Gulf War ended before this event, but it must be admitted that a link can be drawn between the two and above all that it could have been a conclusion to the history of the game.

While some players already imagined themselves participating in a mission as significant as the most controversial in the history of the saga (“No Russian”, in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2), the developers wanted to put the church back in the center of the village. During a question-and-answer session, Treyarch has indeed confirmed that there will be no mission directly related to September 11, 2001. Yale Miller, production director of the studio, confirmed that “It’s just a rumor”. Matt Scronce, also an executive at Treyarch, then justified this decision:

Black Ops 6, like all other Black Ops games, is pure fiction.

If they of course admit to being inspired by real events in the conception of their stories, the developers therefore want to point out that everything they talk about was invented by screenwriters and is not intended to recreate reality. Although the Gulf War will therefore be the context of the game, the operations carried out by the characters in the game will be completely fictitious.
