Just marketed in China, the MG4 already benefits from a special Triumph Edition version which develops 449 hp and 600 Nm of torque!

Not yet officially presented to us (even if it won’t be long), the all-new MG4 electric compact is already on the market in China. As a reminder, the former British manufacturer MG Motor now belongs to the Chinese giant SAIC, the world’s 7th largest manufacturer and leader in the Middle Kingdom.

The MG4 is available either with an electric motor located on the rear axle and delivering 170 hp and 250 Nm of torque, or with a 200 hp electric motor for 250 Nm. The first version has a small 51 kWh battery which promises 350 km of autonomy (WLTP cycle), while the second version is powered by a 64 kWh battery offering 450 km of autonomy. In both cases, it’s solid, but not enough to get up at night.

MG nevertheless seems inclined to satisfy the appetites of the most sporty, since a new variant called Triumph Edition has just appeared. And it is interesting in more ways than one: not only are the figures evocative, with a second engine placed on the front axle which develops 449 hp and 600 Nm of torque, but it is the first time that MG has officially revived with its sporting past since the manufacturer took the electric turn.

Moreover, the MG4 inaugurating the new modular platform MSP (Modular Scalable Platform) dedicated to electric vehicles, it is not excluded that the famous roadster awaited by many fans of the mark is not only derived from this platform, but above all integrates this traction chain. On paper, the transplant could be interesting since the MG4 Triumph Edition already announces a 0 to 100 km / h shot in 3.8 s and a torque vectoring system. On the other hand, the 64 kWh battery seems unchanged, which augurs a range that will not exceed 400 km. On the MG site, it is nevertheless announced that the 80% recharge can be done in 35 minutes.

For the moment, we don’t have any other information except that the passenger compartment is based on the design of the “classic” MG4, with digital instrumentation coupled with an infotainment screen. The little touch of originality would come from the two-tone white and red trim and 18-inch rims.
