Justice League: fake accounts, manipulation… is the Snyder Cut campaign a scam?

Released in March 2021 in the United States, the “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” is at the heart of a controversy following an investigation published by Rolling Stone. The magazine claims that the fan-driven campaign contained many fake accounts.

The Snyder Cut of Justice League continues to be talked about. The VOD release of the film, scheduled for July 19 in the United States, was overshadowed by the publication ofinvestigation on the magazine’s American site RollingStone. The article claims, among other things, that fake accounts have fueled “the digital army” from the Snyder Cut. An accusation that adds to the long list of controversies surrounding the blockbuster.

According to the journalist, the media would have got hold of two reports commissioned by the company Warner Media which reveal that “13% of active accounts behind the pro-Zack Snyder campaign are fake”. This is much more than the usual rates of 3-5% for similar subjects. Contacted by the magazine, several companies specializing in the authenticity of activities on the Web confirm the information.

In the continuation of the investigation, more than twenty anonymous sources also claim that Zack Snyder – compared to the famous comic book villain Lex Luthor in a quote – “manipulated the campaign in his favor”. For his part, the director denies all the accusations. He retorts that the studio Warner Bros took advantage of the enthusiasm of the fans to increase the number of subscribers on the new streaming platform, HBO Max.

ONE OF THE FILM’S ACTORS REACTS

Since the release of the investigation, published on July 18, the journalist from RollingStone is being taken to task on social media and not just by the filmmaker’s devoted fans. Coming soon to the poster of the new film by Zack Snyder, actor Ray Fisher – Cyborg in Justice League – criticizes the author in particular for not having given him enough time to respond to the survey.

Good try ! But you cropped the part of the emails where the reporter changed the response times.
Turning those emails half of which are missing to trap will get you nowhere.
Rolling Stone, master your employees. It’s embarrassing and amateurish.

Last May, the American site TheWrap revealed another controversy similar to Oscar time. As the Academy launched a poll to award the Audience Oscar, the media claimed that the director’s feature film te won the prize thanks to computer bots – software that performs actions automatically.

In France, the Snyder Cut of Justice League is available on VOD and on OCS.
