Justin Roiland has also freed up time to set up his own video game development studio, Squanch Gamesto whom we owe Trover Saves the Universe and the recent and popular High On Life.
His beautiful story will a priori stop, because he has just resign from the post of director of Squanch Games this January 16 and also to put an end to its collaboration with Adult Swim. The origin of these departures has not officially been specified, but they occur a few days after Justin Roiland was convicted of domestic violence and forcible confinement to a former girlfriend in Orange County, California. The facts took place in 2020, but were only revealed when the judgment was announced this month, which brings Justin Roiland not to a prison sentence, but a fine, a ban on approaching his victim. or a ban on owning a firearm. And inevitably, it is easy to imagine that the condemnation and his departure from the two companies are linked.
So what future for rick and morty and Squanch Games without their leader? Adult Swim confirmed that the series would continue and that the team is currently continuing to work on season 7. The main problem will certainly be that in addition to being a creator and author, Justin Roiland was also a voice actor of several characters, including the heroes Rick and Morty, it will therefore quickly be necessary to find someone talented to embody its crazy characters. On the side of Squanch Gamessame topo, the adventure will continue for improvements in High on Life and future video game projects, but without its designer, who also dubbed characters in the games.
