Kaamelott: Astier defends his biggest fan against haters

By going to see “Kaamelott – Premier Volet” 204 times at the cinema, Arnaud Klein broke the world record! Last December, during a meeting with his fans, Alexandre Astier returned to this incredible performance.

Released in our theaters in July 2021, Kaamelott – Premier Vol, sequel to the famous series by Alexandre Astier on the big screen, attracted more than 2.6 million spectators to the cinema. If some fans, who had been waiting for the feature film for more than 10 years, went to the dark rooms on several occasions, one of them broke all records by going to see the film… 204 times!

Before being recently beaten by an American (and his 292 sessions of Spider-Man: No Way Home), Rémois Arnaud Klein officially entered the Guinness Book of Records last October as the spectator who saw the most times the same film at the cinema. A grueling performance for the 34-year-old young man, who made him lose 13 kilos and which sometimes earned him somewhat derogatory comments from some Internet users.

Alexandre Astier, who had already praised the feat of the super-spectator and who had met him several times, once again spoke on the subject last December, on the occasion ofa digital meeting with his fans organized by Fnac. The opportunity for the filmmaker to congratulate Arnaud Klein again, but also to defend his approach against the haters:

“I went to see him in Reims. I had lunch with him, and then I saw one of these performances with him”he said.

(…) He is extremely likeable, this boy. We pissed him off a lot on the networks, I found it quite disgusting, I must say. There were lots of people saying to him: ‘You’re not doing anything, you’re wasting your time, what bullshit! You could spend all that time in associations.’ (laughs) As if the guys who criticized him spent the time they had to criticize in the same associations.”

After putting these few observers with unpleasant comments in their place, Astier also recalled that the record in question was far from being the most extravagant in the Guinness Book, and above all that Arnaud Klein’s performance deserved to be applauded:

“Not all of the Guinness Reccord Book challenges are of great interest either. There are plenty of things that are far worse in futility than this, we agree. The object of the game, it’s the record. It’s a challenge. And to see a 2-hour film 204 times at the cinema, I’m unable to do it myself. It’s very, very long. It takes rigor, it takes filming himself… It’s doable since he did it. But in any case, I still want to say ‘hat’.”

Will Arnaud Klein try again to beat the record (now held by the American Ramiro Alanis) when the second part of Kaamelott is released in theaters? To be continued…
