Kaamelott: this replica takes on another meaning today

This dialogue from the “Kaamelott” series has resonated differently in the ears of fans since the release of “Kaamelott – First part” and Alexandre Astier’s statements regarding the character of Lancelot.

Did Alexandre Astier foresee the future of the Kaamelott saga from Book V of the series? In any case, this is what emerges from the vision of an episode entitled Corvus Corone. It seems that Astier has slipped from season 5 of his series a clue to the future of Lancelot in his story, all at the bend of a simple replica.

Indeed, in the first minutes of episode 2 of Book V, Lancelot finds himself with Méléagant in a cave. Outside, snow and cold invade everything. Taken refuge in this shelter, the wandering knight banished from Kaamelott wonders:

I’ve been lurking in there like a spider for months, months! And for the sole reason that a stranger in a black hood asked me!

This reference to the spider now echoes comments made by Alexandre Astier last December in reference to Lancelot’s appearance in the First Part, wearing armor that conceals him almost entirely:

“Lancelot was treated (…) like a spider. That is to say, in fact, his lair, in the castle of Kaamelott, is slightly below the main hall. (… ) I wanted to see him not coming down stairs or coming through a door, but coming out of a hole to come and emerge like a spider coming out of its burrow.

“We made the arch too low for him on purpose. Because Thomas Cousseau who plays Lancelot is tall, so he went out like that, lowering his head. It gives him a slightly spidery attitude which I really liked”.

This requirement was confirmed by the film’s costume designer, Marylin Fitoussi, who recently revealed:

Alexandre loves dragons of course, but he is also arachnophile, he loves spiders. I thought about the elements of the spider that we could be afraid of: the proportions, the head, encased in the middle of the legs, the hairy side for some people.

For the continuation of the adventures of Lancelot, in Kaamelott – Second part which will be divided into two parts, and whose filming should begin in the spring of 2023:

“All I can say is that Lancelot is someone who has been in a transformation for a long time (…)”, thus revealed the filmmaker. “In fact, this suit is nothing more than a step. It’s a step on what it will become.”
