Kai Schumann: How difficult is it for him to say goodbye to "Heldt"?

The last season of the series "Heldt" runs until January. In an interview, he tells how difficult it is for actor Kai Schumann to say goodbye.

The eighth and final season of the early evening series "Heldt" (2013-2021) is currently running and the 100th episode will be broadcast on Wednesday (November 18, 19:25, ZDF). The main actor Kai Schumann (44, "Doctor's Diary") explains in an interview with spot on news which heartfelt wish the crime-scene actor ensemble actually wanted to fulfill for this anniversary. He reveals how he found out about the end of the series, how difficult it is to say goodbye to the role of the unconventional Bochum detective and what is next for him.

The eighth and final "Heldt" season is currently running. When did you find out about the end of the series and how difficult is it for you to say goodbye?

Kai Schumann: That was a few days after we finished shooting the eighth season. That is of course sad. That was a long journey. But I have long since made my peace with letting Heldt ride alone into the sunset.

What generally helps you after saying goodbye?

Schumann: When I have to part with my loved ones, it hurts a lot at first. Then I embrace the feeling. And I am grateful to be able to feel so deeply.

How was the last day of shooting? Was there a celebration afterwards? Have tears flowed?

Schumann: Of course we celebrated. And of course no eye stays dry. A last day of filming is always a great relief, because 100 days of filming are quite a feat of strength.

What souvenir did you take from the set?

Schumann: None at all. I didn't know I wouldn't go back there.

What was the most unforgettable scene for you in all these years?

Schumann: Oh, there were an infinite number of crazy moments. But I just remember from last season that I was standing on a hospital roof in superhero costumes with my wonderful colleague Günther Lawniczak, it was freezing cold. And we had such a fit of laughter that we just couldn't keep turning. There have been many such convulsive laughing moments in the last eight years.

The 100th episode airs on November 18th. The series makers have come up with something special for this. Why should you turn on?

Schumann: The whole "Heldt" ensemble always wanted to do a musical episode. It didn't turn out to be. But we still sing a song together. And anyway, the episode is a board penned by Lorenz Lau Uhle, the inventor of the series.

The last episode will air in early January. Are you going to watch the episode? If yes how?

Schumann: If Corona wants, we will definitely celebrate it a little. It'll be pretty emotional.

How are you doing next? What are your plans? What is ready to be said?

Schumann: I am currently enjoying my newfound freedom. I am very happy to play a supporting part in "Tonis Welt", the spin-off of "Club der Roten Bänder". I also started a charity project "Art instead of crisis".

When does "Tonis Welt" start?

Schumann: As far as I know, in spring 2021.
