Thanks to the new Bosch SX motor and thinner battery, the Kalkhoff e-trekking bike is particularly light. Now the German manufacturer can look forward to the IF Design Award.

E-bikes with the latest Bosch Performance Line SX motor are trendy. Hardly surprising: They are usually lighter than other Pedelecs, for example from the SUV class. Worth seeing models such as the Cube AMS Hybrid One44, the KTM Macina Sport SX or the Flyer Upstreet SL are equipped with the SX engine. And the German manufacturer Kalkhoff also has some models with this drive in its range.
These include the attractive touring e-bike Endeavor L Excite, whose appearance has now been awarded the IF Design Award by an international jury.
According to the manufacturer, the e-bike only weighs around 20 kilograms. Nevertheless, the two-wheeler is equipped for everyday use and touring, offers mudguards, hydraulic disc brakes, a lighting system and a massive luggage rack. And don’t worry: the 55 Newton meters of torque in combination with a 12-speed derailleur (Shimano Deore XT) are easily enough to let you climb any mountain.

The currently strongest Bosch battery offers twice as much capacity as the one installed on the Kalkhoff bike with 400 watt hours. But for the model, Kalkhoff offers a 1.6 kilogram range extender with an additional 250 watt hours in the size of a drinking bottle. This means that even long tours of well over 100 kilometers should not be a problem and for everyday trips it simply stays at home.
The Kalkhoff e-trekking bike is available with a low entry or diamond frame in four sizes, but only in one color. In addition to the additional battery, a front luggage rack is on the options list.
Price and availability
Further information about the Endeavor L Excite can be found here from the manufacturer. The price is 4,299 euros. Kalkhoff has not yet announced exactly when the 2024 innovation will be available. But it should be soon. We will introduce you to many new e-bike innovations in the linked overview.
An alternative to the Kalkhoff e-bike could be, for example, the Pegasus Estremo Evo with Pinion gearbox, which is slightly more expensive. However, the Decatlon model LD 920 E with automatic transmission is a little cheaper and also worth a look.
