Rapper Kanye West wants to be addressed by his new name: Ye. Has he now deleted his Instagram profile out of spite?

All fans of the controversial rapper Kanye West (46) is currently taking a look at Instagram: The musician has deactivated his official account and is currently leaving his around 20 million followers alone. At least that is a possible reason for the disappearance of his page. US media speculate that he is annoyed that his fans do not accept his new name Ye. He had this registered in court as his official name in October 2021. About a month ago, he was upset in a post that too few people respected him as Ye.

At that time he complained that hardly anyone would address him as Ye and that he was sometimes forced to use his birth name Kanye West – including by Instagram. To accompany this emotional outburst, he also posted a screenshot of a message to influencer Justin Laboy, in which he wrote: “I’m closing my Kanye West Instagram account.” However, a corresponding replacement account that goes by the name Ye has not yet appeared.

Also, Kanye West said, “My name is Ye.” Nobody could force him to call himself by his old name. His old name will soon be changed to Ye on Instagram. But apparently this didn’t happen. So is the deactivation a simple defiance on the part of Ye or Kanye West?

Another possibility would be that the Meta group, to which Instagram belongs, had the page temporarily blocked due to its content. Ye has already posted numerous controversial statements in the past, sometimes trivializing Adolf Hitler or relativizing the Holocaust. For some experts, this reason seems to be the more likely one: If Instagram itself is temporarily blocked, you can still access the page, but it will show that it is currently unavailable. This is the current status. If Ye had completely deleted his Instagram account himself, this would not be the case and the page view would be in vain.
