Rapper Kanye West wants to buy controversial social media platform Parler. The app is particularly popular with conservatives.

Kanye West (45) is to buy the communication platform Parler. That gave the company Parlement Technologies according to US magazine “People” announced on Monday (October 17). Parler’s parent company is “delighted to announce that it has reached an agreement in principle with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, to acquire the Parler platform.” This enables Parler to continue to create an environment “where all voices are welcome”. The deal is expected to be finalized by the end of 2022.

Controversial Network

Founded in 2018 in Henderson, Nevada, Parler aims to promote unrestricted freedom of expression. She is particularly popular with members from the conservative spectrum. The social platform became very popular after other networks started to moderate publications, for example to curb calls for violence or disinformation. In January 2021, Parler was temporarily removed from Google and Apple stores following the storming of the US Capitol and the inflammatory posts on the platform.

Kanye West’s own presence on other social media platforms has been the subject of much debate over the past few weeks. Just a few hours after his return to Twitter, the group had blocked the rapper’s account and deleted a tweet. According to media reports, the posts were confused, anti-Semitic texts. West’s preferred platform Instagram had previously banned the rapper. Ye, as the artist also calls himself, then reactivated his Twitter account, which had been idle for two years.
