Kanye West: Torn between politics and family

In addition to a new album, rapper Kanye West is also dealing with his presidential candidacy and possible marriage problems.

Kanye West (43, "Yeezus") has always been business-minded. But what the US rapper must have experienced in the past few days and weeks goes far beyond that. West had not only announced in early July that he would run for the presidency of the United States, a new album is also due to be released this week. In addition, there has recently been talk of marriage problems after the rapper's first campaign appearance caused a sensation – and many fans and colleagues are also worried about West's mental health.

His candidacy

In the past few years the musician, businessman and possibly soon also politician had revealed big plans several times. Among other things, he had declared at the end of 2019 that he wanted to become president. "If I ran for president in 2024, I would create so many jobs," he said at the Fast Company Innovation Festival, among other things. On July 5, 2020 West announced on Twitterto run for office as early as 2020.

In a reply to the tweet Star entrepreneur Elon Musk (49), friend of the West, assured the rapper of his full support. West apparently scared her off with an interview for the business magazine "Forbes". Among other things, "Page Six" reported on July 11th of another, again deleted Tweet Musks, in which he allegedly said: "We may have bigger disagreements than I originally assumed."

West recently caused a stir with its first campaign appearance in Charleston, South Carolina. According to the US magazine "People", the rapper said in protective vest with tears: "Even if my wife wants to divorce me after this speech, she gave birth to North, even if I didn't want to. She protected this child." He "almost killed" his daughter because he didn't want North (7) at the time.

Before marriage?

In fact, according to media reports, West is said to have gotten into trouble with his wife Kim Kardashian (39). This is said to have been very upset that he trumpeted that he was thinking about an abortion before the birth of North. His behavior allegedly led to a kind of break in West and Kardashian. An insider recently revealed "People": "Your relationship has been seriously damaged and it happened quite suddenly." Rumor has it that Kardashian has even threatened divorce.

The rapper's wife also seems to want to take all possible measures against West's candidacy. According to further media reports, Kardashian's husband sent several apparently confused tweets on the evening of July 20, in which he allegedly said that she wanted to "lock him away" before his appearance. West is also said to have claimed that the horror film "Get Out" by director Jordan Peele (41) was based on his life. He also indicated that he was considering postponing his candidacy to 2024.

Bipolar disorder and no medication?

All of this also raises the question of the mental health of the 43-year-old. In the past, the rapper had spoken on the subject himself. Among other things, in 2018 West made public that he suffered from a bipolar disorder, which he also called "super power" on his album "Ye". Kanye West reportedly was diagnosed with the disease two years ago. The rapper said he had stopped taking the medication that had been prescribed for him for some time, because it would have restricted his creativity.

Several friends took care of the musician after his Twitter tirade and the campaign appearance, which made West appear only a little stable. On a request on Twitter to save Kanye, Elon Musk explained: "We spoke about an hour ago. He seems to be doing well." Comedian Dave Chappelle (46) also apparently worried about West. The rapper published a short clip on Twitter, in which five men – including West and Chappelle – can be seen. The comedian had flown to West by jet, who is currently staying without a family on a ranch in the US state of Wyoming, which is said to have an underground bunker and a panic room. Chappelle was "sent by God and a true friend".

West also featured other celebrities on Twitter. Apparently in relation to the rapper tweeted the singer Demi Lovato (27) Among other things: "It would be nice if people could close the meme apps and pray for someone who is struggling with their mental health. What happened to the compassion?" Colleague Halsey (25) explained: "No jokes, now." While she was committed to educating her about bipolar disorder, she was concerned about what she was seeing. "Put aside personal opinions about someone, a manic incident isn't a joke. If you can't offer your understanding or compassion, offer your silence."

All just a PR stunt?

Meanwhile, there are numerous social media users who consider West's candidacy and the events of the past few days just as a PR trick to generate media interest for an upcoming album. The rapper has announced several times that a new longplayer will be released this week. The album, named after his late mother Donda (1949-2007) and released on Friday according to the rapper, is apparently the title "Donda: With Child", just "Donda" or "DND: WTH CHLD" wear.
