The action of this feature film taking place in China, the production has chosen to shoot directly on site. The decision to shoot the film entirely in China was not taken lightly. As many places where the story is supposed to take place are forbidden or difficult to access, the producers approached the China Film Group, the largest and most influential state-run movie company in the country, to help them obtain the necessary permits. To note that the film crew is the first to be allowed to shoot inside the Tiananmen Gate and the Forbidden City from The Last Emperor of Bernardo Bertolucci, more than 20 years ago.

For the record, since vehicles are not allowed on the wall, the team had to carry very heavy equipment on their backs. According to the director, it was very hard for the production because the wall is very steep and steep. The section of the wall that was used for the filming is located in Mutianyu, in Huairou county, about 70 km from Beijing. On his side, Jaden Smith had to learn kung fu for the purposes of his role. His teacher was Wu Gang, the stunt coordinator for Jackie Chan’s team. The latter gave him lessons for 3 months in Los Angeles, before leaving for Beijing, where he continued to train her during the 4 months of filming.
