Princess Anne is part of the procession

Seven members of the royal family follow Prince Philip’s coffin on the way from Windsor Castle to St. George’s Chapel – only one of them is female: Princess Anne, 70. Although it is tradition that only men take part in royal funeral procession, Anne has already joined the procession of her grandmother Queen Mum in 2002. The royal family wants to move with the times – and as the daughter of Prince Philip, the Princess Royal is entitled to a place in the list with all her heart. In her long coat and hat, Anne stands out clearly, looks like the matriarch of the entourage.

Staff pay their last respects to Prince Philip

Along the way there are not only members of the military and members of the royal family, but also employees of the royals. The TV cameras and photographers show that even the chefs and their kitchen staff have been given a short time off to come outside and say goodbye to Prince Philip.

The seat next to Queen Elizabeth remains empty

The sight of the Queen, who is now a widow after more than 73 years of marriage, hurts viewers all over the world. Because of protective measures against the corona virus, she must not have anyone sitting next to her who comes from a foreign household. The painful consequence: She has to survive the service “alone”. Particularly sad: Prince Philip had often sat in the seat immediately next to her. For example in May 2018, at the wedding of Prince Harry, 36, and Duchess Meghan, 39. Or a few months later, in October, when Princess Eugenie, 31, and Jack Brooksbank were married. Instead of Prince Philip, her handbag can be seen on the Queen’s left. In it, the British press writes, she put a photo of herself and Philip as a newly married couple …

Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry give flowers

In the choir of St. George’s Chapel, the participants in the service laid wreaths for Prince Philip. The Sussexes’ wreath was created by one of the couple’s favorite local florists, Willow Crossley. Prince Harry and Herzgin Meghan specifically asked that hogweed, the national flower of Greece, and thistles, which represent the Royal Marines, be used in the arrangement. The wreath also included bluebells as a symbol of gratitude and everlasting love, rosemary as a token of remembrance, lavender for devotion and roses in honor of June, the month Philip was born. Meghan also included a handwritten card.

Duchess Catherine comforts Prince Charles

Prince Charles is a man who has his emotions under control in public. He did not succeed at the funeral of his father: A photo shows the heir to the throne with tears on the wagon. After the service, at which different households were not allowed to come closer due to Corona restrictions, daughter-in-law Duchess Catherine donates consolation: She lovingly puts a hand on Prince Charles’ shoulder, shortly afterwards even gives him a peck on the cheek. No question about it: two are very close here.
