The eyes of the whole planet were riveted on there coronation ceremony of King Charles III of England Saturday, May 6, 2023, which took place in Westminster Abbey in London. The new monarch of the United Kingdom has thus officially succeeded his late mother, Queen Elizabeth IIwho died at the age of 96 on Thursday September 8, 2022. Shortly after the death of the previous sovereign, who reigned over Great Britain for no less than 70 years, Charles III was proclaimed King of England at the age of 73which is a record in the history of the British monarchy.
On the occasion of the coronation of the new monarch of the United Kingdom, almost all of the British royal family have visited Westminster Abbey, to attend this ceremony broadcast on television screens around the world. Of course, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton were in the first row. The Prince and Princess of Wales were unsurprisingly accompanied by their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. If Prince William’s wife caused a sensation during this event thanks to her look, British media revealed that a last-minute change was made to her outfit.

As a reminder, Kate Middleton wore an ivory silk crepe dress made by Alexander McQueenwhich featured silver bullion and thread embroidery with rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock designs, to represent each of the four nations of the United Kingdom. The Princess of Wales also added a pair of pearl and diamond earrings belonging to Lady Diana, in order to pay homage to him. Kate Middleton was also to wear Queen Elizabeth II’s George VI Festoon necklace, which King George VI commissioned for his eldest daughter in 1950. The latter, which contained 105 diamonds set, reportedly removed in a bid not to overwhelm the Royal Victorian Order coat worn by the Princess of Wales. Edged with scarlet, it was surmounted by a silver ingot, a crystal and a silver thread.
