fun, news, tips … what else?

Kate Middleton, Kamala Harris and Queen Letizia of Spain are the faces of an Italian campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence.

It’s a shock campaign. In recent days, advertising posters on domestic violence have appeared in Spain and Italy. And not just any since they represent public figures known internationally: the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, the Vice-President of the United States Kamala Harris, the Queen of Spain Letizia Ortiz or the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

This campaign by Italian artist Alexsandro Palombo was launched on November 26, the day after the International Day against Violence Against Women. Its aim is to educate the population on domestic violence. Very committed to this theme, the artist retouched photos of these women by disfiguring them with numerous bruises. Under each photo, we can read: “She had denounced him, it is written under the photo. But no one believed her. But we left her alone. But we didn’t protect her. But he was not arrested. ”

On his Instagram account, he explained the reasons for this impactful awareness campaign. According to him, states and institutions do not take responsibility for this scourge which kills many women every year around the world. “I only see the politicians inviting women to file a complaint but without taking the responsibility to protect and support the victims. A state which does not protect but leaves women alone in the hands of their executioner becomes a silent accomplice. There are many associations of volunteers who, with very little means, try to support the victims, but it is up to politics, institutions and the state to assume this responsibility ”.

According to the english tabloid The Sun, this project which has already crossed the borders of Spain and Italy would not have received the agreement of Buckingham Palace to use the image of the Duchess of Cambridge. And it is certainly the same for other political figures. But what does it matter, if this can alert people to this scourge denounced by Alexsandro Palombo for a few years. Because the Italian artist is not at his first attempt. In 2020, he launched a “Street art campaign” titled “Just because I am a Woman” in which other political figures appear with swollen faces: Michelle Obama, Brigitte Macron or Angela Merkel. He had done the same with actresses Eva Longoria, Angelina Jolie or singer Madonna.
