While the British royal family has been going through a complicated period for several years, marked by Meghan and Harry’s desire to take a step back, it’s time for festivities with the coronation of Charles III on May 6, 2023. For the occasion, Closer invites you to take a leap into the past and return to the early 2000s when the Princess of Wales had not yet met her future husband.
Daughter of Michael and Carole, who made their fortune starting a party accessories business, Catherine Middleton, her real name, grew up in a wealthy family in Berkshire, a region of West London. In the early 2000s, the young woman joined the university of st andrews. It was in this prestigious Scottish establishment that she met Prince William in 2001, during a charity parade. Very quickly, this sublime brunette cracked the son of Prince Charles and, in 2003, their relationship was formalized. Catherine Middleton will become Kate Middleton, future wife of the future King of England.
Kate and William: a slightly organized meeting?
But did the young woman really meet Prince William for the first time in St Andrews? Across the Channel, another version often comes up in the media. According to Katie Nicholl, a journalist at Mail on Sunday, Kate Middleton met William when she was only in high school, through mutual friends. She also recalls that the young woman changed her choice of universityat the last minute, moving from Edinburgh to St Andrews, when Prince William announced his choice.
