On March 10, Prince William shared a photograph of the Princess of Wales with their three children on the occasion of Mother’s Day. A very popular photo, especially since Kate Middleton has been absent from the media since the end of December. Having undergone abdominal surgery last January, Prince George’s mother has not been seen in public since, leaving rumors to accumulate day by day. The photo, posted last March, added more fuel to the fire since it turned out that the photo had been far too retouched. Enough to push AFP, but also other renowned press agencies, to make the decision to unpublish the photo of the pretty little family.

The photo sparked strong reactions on the web and was at the center of a good number of analyses, starting with the absence of Kate Middleton’s engagement ring on her finger, which ended up giving grain to the grind to the supporters of the rumor of a deception of Prince William. Among the many remarks, there is that of the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, which seems to be rather unwelcome given the current context subject to controversy… Indeed, during a public outing, the monarch greeted children present on the sidelines of this event organized in Zutphen and the least we can say is that he did not mince his words. When a little girl told him that she had a photo of the entire Dutch royal family together, King Willem-Alexander judged that it was the right moment to take a dig at Kate Middleton. Really..? At least I didn’t photoshop it.”he quipped, laughing out loud.

A controversy far from being buried…

This is not the only photo of Kate Middleton that has caused a reaction since a photo by photographer Jim Bennett was also the subject of questions. The one who prides himself on having more than 40 years of experience in the field explained to our colleagues at the magazine Hello! that he had wanted to take a photo of Prince William before finally realizing that a woman who looked like he was his wife was sitting in the back seat alongside him in their black Land Rover.

To avoid any suspicion of photo manipulation and falsification, Jim Bennett indicated: “The photo of William was pretty good, it turns out [Kate] was sitting next to him although we can’t see her clearly, we can see that she is looking away. It was only confirmation from their press service that attested that she was in the vehicle with him.”. Then add: “[En tant que photographes]we are not allowed to manipulate the images, except for a little lightening or a little darkening and that’s it”. “Literally change the content? You can’t do that. If you’re a professional you don’t do it, end of story, it’s a rule that’s set for everyone”he insisted in order to pull the rug out from under his potential detractors.

For her part, Kate Middleton returned via a tweet to the scandal generated by the publication of her photo on Mother’s Day. The mother of three apologized and admitted that “Like many amateur photographers, [elle] occasionally experiments with editing“.”I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion caused by the family photo we shared this Sunday. I hope everyone had a great Mother’s Day,” she wrote.
