Oscar winner Kate Winslet (48, “Titanic”) was awarded the CineMerit Award at the Munich Film Festival on Tuesday evening in the Deutsches Theater. The award was presented to the British actress by David Kross (33), her co-star in the German-American Oscar-winning film “The Reader” (2008).

“I have never seen an actor show such dedication to every single cast and crew member on set,” enthused Kross before handing the trophy to his colleague. After the applause had died down, Winslet thanked everyone for the award, which has been presented to filmmakers since 1997. Winslet’s predecessors include Susan Sarandon, Mads Mikkelsen, Melanie Griffith, Emma Thompson, Terry Gilliam, Ralph Fiennes, Antonio Banderas and Jessica Lange.

Winslet used her speaking time to make a passionate declaration of love for her profession: “I love my job. I love it. I love it. I never get bored of it. And I am grateful for that and I thank everyone who is here tonight,” said the award winner.

As a clip in the film festival Instagram stories also showsthe actress, dressed in an elegant white pantsuit, patiently signed autographs for the waiting fans before the awards ceremony. She then signed the traditional black and white poster with her portrait and posed for the photographers with her laudator.

Kate Winslet’s new film “The Photographer” also celebrated its European premiere on July 2 at the Munich Film Festival. The film’s world premiere was at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada in 2023.

Winslet plays Lee Miller (1907-1977), one of the most influential photographers of the last century. According to the announcement, the US-born photographer was one of “those fearless women who paved the way into a male-dominated field and ultimately changed the way we see the world with their images.”
