RTL films the novel “Miss Merkel: Murder in the Uckermark”. Katharina Thalbach takes on the leading role of the former chancellor.

Katharina Thalbach (68) will soon be in front of the camera for a special role. The actress will play the leading role in the RTL novel adaptation of the bestseller “Miss Merkel: Mord in der Uckermark” by David Safier (55). The broadcaster has at Twitter approved. The magazine “Blickpunkt:film” further reports that filming of the ninety-minute film will begin shortly. The author of the screenplay is Stefan Cantz, directed by Christoph Schnee.

Second Merkel role

In the first volume of the novel series, the former chancellor has been retired for six weeks and moved to the Uckermark with her husband and pug. After the turbulent life in Berlin, she finds it difficult to get involved in the tranquility of country life, which is why she begins to solve a murder case. Thalbach will not embody Angela Merkel for the first time. In the satirical film “Der Minister” (Sat.1), which focused on the political life of Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg (50), she appeared in 2013 as “Angela Murkel”.

Thalbach is still in front of the camera for another project for the RTL media group: she takes on a role in the continuation of the cult series “New Stories from Pumuckl”. Florian Brückner (38) takes on the leading role as Meister Eder’s nephew. The 13 new episodes will be shot in Munich and the surrounding area until the summer of 2022. From the end of 2023 they will be shown exclusively on the streaming service RTL+.
