Katharine Hepburn (here aged 14) was born in Connecticut in 1907. She grew up with her five siblings in sheltered circumstances. She enjoys a liberal upbringing. Her father is a respected doctor, her mother campaigns for women’s rights. When she was 13, she found her beloved brother Tom, two years her senior, who had hanged himself in the attic. His death hits her so hard that she falls into depression.
