Lance Reddick died unexpectedly in March 2023. Keanu Reeves remembers his “John Wick” colleague.

Keanu Reeves (59) was awarded the first “Lance Reddick Legacy Award” at the 51st Saturn Awards on February 4th. The award is named after the US actor Lance Reddick (1962-2023), who died unexpectedly last March at the age of 60.

The award is intended to honor actors who have made outstanding contributions to more than just the science fiction, horror and fantasy genres. The award symbolizes and celebrates not only the talent of the winner but also their character, it said in a press release beforehand. As part of the event remembered Reeves to his friend, with whom he appeared in front of the camera for the “John Wick” films.

Because of Lance Reddick, people love the John Wick series

“He had such a passion and fire for creativity, for his craft and for art. I had the opportunity to work with him on four films over the course of eight years and in that time we got to know each other better,” Reeves told People magazine. Reddick had a lot of grace and a good sense of humor. Reeves’ favorite memories of the deceased are the scenes of him as John Wick and Reddick as Charon together – as well as the relationship between the characters.

He once wrote Reddick a letter that said: “People love John Wick because Charon loves John Wick.” When the two played together, there was a lot of affection – in front of and behind the camera. Both Reeves and Reddick enjoyed filming together and working on their characters.

After Reddick’s death became known last year, Reeves and “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski (55) jointly stated, among other things: “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken about the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick.” They declared that they would dedicate “John Wick: Chapter 4,” which also appeared in March 2023, to Reddick.
