KEMURI: gameplay sketches and creative vision, UNSEEN developers speak in video

After working at Capcom on Ōkamion the side of PlatinumGames on Bayonetta first of the name, then at Tango Gameworks on the The Evil Within And Ghostwire: Tokyoand having collaborated with Iggymob on Gungrave GOREthe bubbly Ikumi Nakamura founded her own video game studio in 2021 UNSEEN. The first project of this young entity is called KEMURI and was introduced to the general public last December on the occasion of the Game Awardswith a teaser serving mainly to present its atmosphere and the fact that we will play a hunter of yokai. If you want to learn a little more about it, that’s a good thing sincea video has been uploaded in recent hours, where the team shows us for the first time a glimpse of the gameplay under development and explains its vision.

During these seven minutes of explanations, many members of the studio take the floor to explain what awaits us in KEMURInamely Ikumi Nakamura, NassShane Canning, Omar Espinosa, Idris Gray Macchruiteir, Misuzu Watanabe, Kenan Alpay, Kasper Holmberg, David Steinberg, Raul Ibarra, Aaron Packard, Erick Tjoe, Yurie and Pierre Maury.

KEMURI will therefore be a game PvE online cooperative playable both alone and with others with friends or other people on the Web, which will mix the world of yokai and reality while trying to awaken in us a certain sense of curiosity that may have been lost while growing up. This supernatural universe whose name literally means “smoke” in Japanese is influenced by dark fantasy and animeand will be treated as a character in its own right, wanting to be unpredictable and able to react to our actions to a certain degree.

We will play a hunter of yokai able to obtain powers beyond human capabilities in order to overcome unknown challenges. One of them is called Fox Windowallowing us to see worlds normally invisible to flush out the yokai and why not fight them. Using it will reveal our presence to them, so you will have to use it at the right time. In addition to fighting, it will also be possible toacquire yokai to increase our powerwhich will add replayability while adding a renewed sense of discovery. Using them will change our appearance, for example by transforming us into tengu or in a sort of Ghost Rider.

The animations are intended to be dynamic with a certain musicality in the movements allowing players to express themselves as they wish withina chaotic, vertical world. Surprisingly these days, the team did not want to use motion capture in order to focus on the “keyframes” of the animations. The environments will be inspired by different cultures reflecting the very composition of the studio and should give us a kind of nostalgia through its story, its characters and its artistic direction. We will also be confronted with the nature of death and will have to face the consequences of our choices, whether in life or the afterlife.

Finally, in addition to the slight glimpses of the video, the developers want to show us some gameplay, but above all make sure that it is good and looks cool, so you will have to be patient. And it will probably not be right away, because it has been clarified that KEMURI is entering a phase of extensive development and playtesting as of the broadcast of this video.

Waiting to discover KEMURIdo not hesitate to discover Ghostwire: Tokyowhich is sold for €53.99 at the house of Gamesplanet.
