The police have “launched a manhunt” to find the man of Ethiopian origin. The latter, who trained in the same establishment as Damaris Muthee Mutua, is said to have hastily fled the country.
The city of Iten, which is known for its training center for long-distance runners, had already hit the headlines last October after the murder of Agnes Tirop. The athlete was found stabbed to death in her home.
Her disappearance sent shock waves across the country, highlighting violence against women in Kenya. While he has denied the charges against him, Tirop’s ex-husband has been charged with murder and is currently in custody.
