Kenzo Takada passed away at the age of 81. The creator of the Kenzo brand has died of Covid-19.

In the midst of Parisian Fashion Week, the fashion world is in mourning. Japanese designer Kenzo Takada has passed away at the age of 81, announced the spokesperson for the Kenzo brand, of which he was the founder. "Kenzo Takada passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at the American Hospital of Neuilly-sur-Seine from the suites (of) Covid-19", he told AFP.

Kenzo Takada is the first Japanese fashion designer to win in Paris. Passionate about fashion and design from an early age, he created Kenzo, imagining clothes, accessories and fragrances that were very successful. In 1993, he sold the brand to the LVHM group before leaving the fashion world six years later. A few months ago, he launched a design line. With its "nearly eight thousand drawings", the stylist and designer "has never stopped celebrating fashion and the art of living", says its spokesperson.

At 81, Kenzo Takada was part of the age group most affected by Covid-19. According to a study by the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (Dress) carried out with data collected from 90,800 patients hospitalized between March 1 and June 15, the death rate linked to disease is 33% for those over 80, against 2% for those under 40. "The median age of people who died in hospital is 81", specifies the institute. In addition, "men are over-represented among people hospitalized in critical care (70%), among deceased people (60%), and to a lesser extent among hospitalized people (55%)", specifies the report.
