Kering: EU launched inspection at Gucci’s Italian premises, says Kering

PARIS (Reuters) – The European Commission began an inspection of the Italian premises of Gucci on Tuesday, Kering, owner of the luxury brand, announced on Wednesday, confirming information from Reuters.

The luxury group said the inspection was part of a preliminary multi-country investigation into the fashion industry under the bloc’s antitrust rules.

Two sources told Reuters earlier today that the European competition regulator and Italian tax police inspected a Gucci building on Tuesday.

One of the sources clarified that it was a site in Milan where handbags and other leather products are produced, among other things.

No comments have been made by Gucci.

Moreover, according to one of the sources, similar inspections were carried out at the premises of other fashion companies.

The European Commission announced on Tuesday that operations have been carried out in the fashion sector in several countries of the European Union, without specifying the countries and companies concerned, in accordance with its habits.

The EU executive said the inspections were unrelated to previous operations by the authorities in the fashion sector over the past two years.
