Cunning comment or honest call? Kevin Spacey speaks up with another Christmas video.
Kevin Spacey, 61, posted a Christmas greeting video on YouTube for the third year in a row. The one to three-minute clips of the American actor have been one of the few messages he has shared with the public since he largely withdrew into private life in 2017. In the 120-second video, which is titled "1-800 XMAS", he now strikes a different note than in previous years, but again does not save with self-inflation. Right at the start, Spacey asks: "What would Christmas be without a message from me?"
"Do not do it!"
As a result, he grabs the camera and explains, "A lot of people contacted me over the past year and shared their stories with me. I was only able to be there for them because of my own difficulties. And while it was a privilege to be able to offer assistance, I have to admit that it was beyond my ability. Many of them have spoken heartbreakingly about how many things have become so difficult for them. So difficult that they have thought about killing themselves. And that's enough for me, to approach things differently this year. "
While Spacey founded the tradition in 2018 with a video in which he showed little insight as the "House of Cards" character Frank Underwood and followed up with another darkly disturbing video in 2019, 2020 seems to have had an impact on the actor too: "I want to acknowledge their pain and say to anyone out there who thinks about this step, please, please don't take this step. If you stand in a place where you can no longer stand when you are suffering or need help, blame." or feel shame, wrestle with your identity, with your back to the wall and it feels like there is no way out – I promise you: there is a way. "
Spacey pulled out of the public eye in 2017 following allegations of sexual assault. He denies the allegations.
