Kia EV9: the salty price of the large seven-seater electric SUV

Concept still rare on the market, the large SUV Kia EV9 5 meters long has finally unveiled its complete technical sheet, and especially its prices. It will have to face a still thin competition composed in particular of the Mercedes EQB and of course the Tesla Model X.

As expected, Kia offers two versions of its large family, Earth and GT-Line, varying the staffing and performance.

The access model is equipped with a single motor located on the rear axle and delivering a power of 204 horsepower for a torque of 350 Nm. In this configuration, the engine propels the 2.4 tons of the machine in 9.4 seconds when exercising from 0 to 100 km/h. In addition, it will be possible to tow a trailer weighing up to 900 kg. The 99.8 kWh battery, common to both versions, gives it up to 541 km of autonomy before having to stop at a terminal to go from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes thanks to the charging power of 240 kW.

The GT-Line finish opts for a second engine, this time placed on the front axle, offering all-wheel drive. The cumulative power climbs to 385 horsepower and 700 nm of torque, thus bringing down the 0 to 100 km / h in less than 6 seconds. An impressive result for a 2.6 tonne SUV, but still far from the performance offered by the 1020 horsepower of the Tesla Model X Plaid.

Resolutely cut out for families, the Kia large SUV offers several configurations. Starting with the top-of-the-range all-wheel-drive model, the EV9 offers the possibility of having seven seats or six with the relaxation position or the rotary function. This allows the second row seats to rotate 180° to face the rear passengers. For its part, the rear-wheel drive version only offers the seven-seater configuration.

To obtain this 100% electric family car, it will be necessary to reduce 78,000 € for the access version equipped with the 204 horsepower engine and a rich endowment. The price rises to €86,000 for the GT-Line finish equipped with all-wheel drive, Matrix LED lights, specific fittings and overall more opulent finishes such as the suede roof, the glazed rear roof and the remote parking assistance. Finally, Kia clearly wants to play in the court of premium manufacturers; an area where BMW and Mercedes seem to reign supreme and where Tesla looks down on the competition with its Model X, however priced from €110,000.
