Kia Sweden has been somewhat indiscreet about the future technical characteristics of the Kia Niro EV (2022). The Korean manufacturer does not seem to be beefing up its game much from one generation to another on a technical level.
After a hybrid version launched in 2016, followed two years later by a 100% electric version, the Kia e-Niro is making its merry way in the landscape of electric cars. The vehicle was even entitled to a small restyling in 2020, before passing through our hands the time of a test in good and due form.
This electric SUV was particularly distinguished by its controlled consumption, its correct autonomy for the time and a suitable habitability. In this year 2022, Kia wants to go further with a new version called Kia Niro EV, which should sport a more modern look.
Conservatism
On the other hand, the Korean manufacturer could show a certain conservatism under the hood. Its Swedish branch has indeed revealed – probably inadvertently – some technical information about this 2022 version, relays InsideEVs. Not much, or almost, should change.
According to the information posted online, the Kia Niro EV would still be entitled to an output of 150 kW (201 hp) in its most powerful configuration. On the autonomy side, things are moving, but very little: the 64.8 kWh battery would give it a range of 463 kilometers… or 8 kilometers more than the current e-Niro. This is little.
However, this last fact should be viewed with caution. Indeed, these figures are still in the process of being approved by the WLTP protocol. They could therefore evolve once the procedures are applied. On the charging side, it will always be necessary to rely on a DC power (direct current) of 77 kW.
Where the Kia Niro EV (2022) could disappoint is therefore in terms of autonomy. With increasingly tough competition and radiuses of action tending to strengthen, this vehicle could show a certain delay vis-à-vis its rivals. Especially since the SUV segment is the most popular of all, and where improvements are regular.
A more generous interior
Is that a surprise though? Not really, since this new generation will still be based on the current platform and not on the e-GMP architecture, specifies Clean Automotive. This therefore suggests relatively similar technical characteristics, the base being the same.
This Kia Niro EV will seek to seduce thanks to its slightly more generous dimensions and an increased wheelbase supposed to provide more space inside. The rear trunk volume will also take the lead and climb to 475 liters instead of 451 liters, in order to give more space to a family during a trip, for example.
Peugeot will make many minor changes to its electric cars to improve their autonomy.
