“Kidnapped” by his electric car, he completely loses control: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

He found himself trapped in his own vehicle. Will technology end up dominating humans? In any case, this is perhaps what this electric car wanted to prove. On Thursday October 5, 2023, the Daily Mail reported that a Scottish motorist found himself “kidnapped” in his electric car. The latter then took the initiative of running two red lights then going through roundabouts at 50km/h. Panic, he called the police who helped him stop by placing a van in its path. The car crashed into the vehicle, stopping its mad rush. “I realized something was wrong when I came to a roundabout and tried to slow down, but it didn’t work” the motorist told the DailyMail. “Then I heard a loud grinding noise that sounded like brake pads. Except it was such a new car that I knew it wasn’t that.”

“I was completely stuck in the car”

This is the beginning of real hell for the driver. “I managed to get around the roundabout at about 50km/h and then I had a long road ahead of me so I assumed it would stop without me speeding up, but it wasn’t the case” he explained. “I have mobility issues, so I couldn’t even jump,” he explained. “I was completely stuck in the car going 30 mph.” A speed that seems like nothing but which is impressive when you don’t control it. “It might not look very fast, but when you have no control over the speed and you’re completely stuck inside, it’s terrifying. I came to a roundabout , which slowed the car down to about 15 mph, and the police van was waiting for me on the other side.” he said. “I ran into the back of the van as it was moving, before the police braked to stop me.” Fortunately, nothing serious in this story. The driver was not injured. but will perhaps think twice before buying an electric vehicle. As for the insurance, it decided to open an investigation to understand this brake malfunction on a new car.
