Long-discussed goal lets Hamburger SV breathe a sigh of relief

Hamburger SV is – at least temporarily – back in the relegation zone of the 2nd Bundesliga. However, it takes a lot of work against relegation candidate Kaiserslautern. Holstein Kiel in Nuremberg is much easier. Magdeburg missed a breakthrough in the bottom of the table.

1. FC Nuremberg – Holstein Kiel 0:4 (0:3)

Holstein Kiel has taken the next step towards the Bundesliga. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team celebrated their fourth win in a row with a 4-0 (3-0) victory over 1. FC Nürnberg and increased their lead over the relegation place to seven points, at least temporarily.

Marko Ivezic (20th), Shuto Machino (34th) and Alexander Bernhardsson (43rd) made things clear with their goals in the first half. Kiel benefited from the early yellow-red card against Joseph Hungbo for repeated foul play (12th). Nicolai Remberg (79th) made the final score. The guests remained without conceding a goal for the fourth game in a row.

Kiel dominated the game with the majority. Ivezic headed in from a corner to take the lead. Machino and Bernhardsson then made it worth seeing. There was little offensive from Nuremberg when they were outnumbered in the first half. After the change, the hosts became a little more courageous. Kiel’s goalkeeper Timon Weiner made a strong save against Lukas Schmelzer (50′). After that, Kiel had everything under control again.

Hamburger SV – 1. FC Kaiserslautern 2:1 (1:1)

After reaching the DFB Cup final, the high-flyers of 1. FC Kaiserslautern landed hard in the gray everyday life of the league. The Palatinate team had to admit defeat in the traditional duel against Hamburger SV with 1:2 (1:1) and fell to relegation place 17th. HSV, on the other hand, climbed to third place, at least temporarily.

FCK returnee Ragnar Ache (45th + 1) equalized Hamburg’s lead from Laszlo Benes (34th) with his 15th goal of the season. But Lukasz Poreba (61′) let Hamburg celebrate, although the goal only counted after careful study of the video evidence and long discussions.

Lautern’s coach Friedhelm Funkel made four changes after the 2-0 win in the cup in Saarbrücken. The freshness was good for his team, the guests played on an equal footing with the promotion aspirants, who had to do without top scorer Robert Glatzel, who was ill.

On the difficult-to-play pitch in the Volkspark, Benes (32′) initially had the best chance with a shot against the post. The lead was a classic victory from four meters. Ache scored after Tobias Raschl resolutely won the ball against Ludovit Reis. Things continued to waver back and forth in the second half. Benes hit the post again (49th), on the other hand Almamy Toure was denied twice by HSV goalkeeper Matheo Raab (60th). In return the score was 2-1.

SV Elversberg – 1. FC Magdeburg 0-0

The goalless kickers from SV Elversberg and 1. FC Magdeburg have wrested an important point from each other in the relegation battle. In the 0-0 draw in Saarland, both teams maintained their long streak without scoring. Elversberg has now been waiting for a goal for 273 minutes, Magdeburg has been waiting for a goal for 495. After all, the FCM got a draw again after three defeats with 0:11 goals.

Elversberg was the much more active and dangerous team in the first half. Magdeburg’s coach Christian Titz had set up his team with a four-man chain in a more defensively oriented manner, which was also expressed in offensive harmlessness. Hugo Vandermersch (27th) and captain Luca Schnellbacher (56th/74th) could have put Elversberg in the lead. On the other hand, substitute Bryan Teixeira failed (70′).
