Kiel crazy against Paderborn
Darmstadt storms dramatically to the top

Drama at Böllenfalltor. Hosts Darmstadt 98 are 2-0 down with 15 minutes to go. Heidenheim is in the promotion race. But three goals in six minutes turn the game upside down. The lilies are suddenly leaders. Holstein scored three goals in Kiel and lost again.

Holstein Kiel – SC Paderborn 3: 4 (1: 1)

Holstein Kiel is slipping further and further into the relegation swamp in league two. The Storks conceded their third defeat in a row with the 3:4 (1:1) home defeat against SC Paderborn and must continue to look towards the danger zone. The East Westphalians, on the other hand, ended their dry spell of four games without a win with their seventh away win and consolidated their place in the top half of the table.

Ron Schallenberg (19th) had given the guests the lead in front of 9174 spectators after the first serious push into the Kiel half. Jann-Fiete Arp (23rd), however, equalized shortly afterwards with his second goal of the season. After the break, Maximilian Thalhammer (54′), Florent Muslija (74′) and Jamilu Collins (76′) made the decision. After the goals from Kiel by Alexander Mühling (81st, penalties) and Benedikt Pichler (88th), things got hectic in the final minutes.

Kiel tried to be in control from the off, but initially had some difficulties with the early attacking East Westphalia. After the initial phase, the hosts finally got the match under control and also scored the first big chance with Steven Skrzybski (12th) hitting the post, but literally out of nowhere they unexpectedly fell behind due to assignment problems on the defensive. Thanks to Arp’s quick equaliser, the North Germans remained the game-determining team until the break, but were just as unable to create any other dangerous opportunities as the ex-Bundesliga team.

In the second period, the hosts answered their renewed deficit with a powerful game. However, in contrast to Paderborn’s first lead, the players of Kiel’s coach Marcel Rapp were not able to equalize in a timely manner. Accordingly, Kiel acted more and more hectic as the season went on. Paderborn had several opportunities to counterattack. Due to the double strike at the beginning of the final phase, the team of SCP coach Lukas Kwasniok initially pulled away, but Kiel was not yet beaten.

SV Darmstadt 98 – 1.FC Heidenheim 3:2 (0:1)

After a furious race to catch up, Darmstadt 98 has at least temporarily conquered the top of the table. The team coached by Torsten Lieberknecht defeated 1. FC Heidenheim 3:2 (0:1) at the start of the 25th match day after being down 0:2 and replaced Werder Bremen. Bremen can overtake again on Sunday with a home win against Dynamo Dresden. Aaron Seydel (77th), Phillip Tietz (81st) and Tim Skarke (83rd) turned the almost lost encounter for the lilies. It was the first home win since November 20. Christian Kühlwetter (17th) and Robert Leipertz (61st) put Heidenheim in the lead.

Darmstadt started dominantly and had the first finish through Luca Pfeiffer (14th). Three minutes later, Heidenheim struck ice cold. After a nice combination, Kühlwetter scored from a short distance to take the lead. The guests then stood compactly and only allowed chances in the final phase of the first half. Mathias Honsak failed after a corner kick to goalkeeper Kevin Müller (45 + 1).

Darmstadt increased the pressure after the change, but Heidenheim initially had everything under control and was much more efficient. Leipertz scored just a few seconds after being substituted on. Seydel, who also came on as a substitute, made it exciting again. Tietz equalized and Skarke scored after a blunder by Müller.
