Wayne Couzens (48) – husband, father of two and elite police officer – confessed to the kidnapping and rape of Sarah Everard († 33). He also takes responsibility for the murder of the young woman, as the British newspaper “The Sun” reports.
The marketing employee said goodbye to a friend in the London borough of Brixton on the evening of March 3 of this year, went home and called her boyfriend Josh Lowth (33) on the phone. Shortly afterwards she disappeared without a trace. A week later, her body was found in a wooded area near Kent, 50 kilometers away. Everard was strangled.
Psychological report required
Shortly after Everard’s disappearance, the suspect Couzens was arrested. Today the chief judge in the case, Adrian Falford, confirmed to “The Sun”: “The defendant pleaded guilty today on counts one and two, the kidnapping of Sarah Everard and the rape of Sarah Everard.”
He is also said to have confessed to the murder of the young British woman, but he has not yet been charged with this. One wants to wait for a medical report on the mental health of the offender first, so the judge. The next hearing in preparation for the trial is scheduled for July 9th. By then, the psychiatric and psychological report should be available.
#TextMeWhenYouGetHome
Sarah Everard’s femicide went around the world – the hashtag #TextMeWhenYouGetHome sparked a debate about women’s safety. In Great Britain the outcry was particularly great, especially after police violence broke out again during a vigil for those killed.
The act also shook up the British police force. London Police Chief Cressida Dick said in March: “I am speaking on behalf of all my colleagues when I say that we are utterly appalled by this terrible news,” she added. “Our job is to patrol the streets and protect people.” (ouch)
