Martin Scorsese’s new film “Killers of the Flower Moon” will be shown in Cannes, it has now been announced.

Martin Scorsese’s (80) highly anticipated new feature film ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ will have its world premiere on May 20th at the Cannes International Film Festival. According to media reports, the organizers confirmed this on Friday.

Scorsese’s work is based on the 2017 bestseller of the same name by David Grann (56). The action takes place in 1920s Oklahoma and revolves around “a series of murders of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a series of brutal crimes known as a ‘reign of terror ‘ became known,” it said in a statement. Stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio (48), Robert De Niro (79) and Brendan Fraser (54) can be seen in the film.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” is according to “The Hollywood Reporter” Scorsese’s first film since 1986 to be screened in the Official Selection at Cannes. Back then, “Time After Midnight” brought him the award for best director. Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver” (1976) previously won the Palme d’Or for best picture. Whether “Killers of the Flower Moon” will be screened in or out of competition at the 76th festival is not yet known. According to the report, Cannes will announce the section in which the film will be shown at the official program press conference in mid-April.

In cinemas from October

The theatrical release date for “Killers of the Flower Moon” has already been set: from Thursday, October 19, 2023, the historical drama will be shown on German cinema screens. In the USA, the film will start in a few selected cinemas on October 6th and will be shown nationwide from October 20th. “Killers of the Flower Moon” will also be available on Apple TV+ afterwards. In addition to DiCaprio, De Niro and Fraser, the cast also includes Lily Gladstone (36) and Jesse Plemons (34).
