Amazon has finally announced its first editable electronic ink tablet, an e-reader on which it is possible to read and write: the Kindle Scribe.

Although this is the first e-reader of this kind marketed by Amazon, it is not the first editable E-ink tablet on the market: the ReMarkable 2 is in direct competition with the new tablet from Amazon.

1. You want an all-in-one editable eReader

If you love to read and write too, and would love to have a single tablet to do both, the Kindle Scribe can help. The promise ? A Kindle reader capable of transforming into a notebook. You will also find organizational features, including the ability to take notes in your ebooks and find them in a unified interface.

While the ReMarkable 2 tablet supports PDF and ePUB files, the Kindle Scribe additionally supports GIF, PNG, JPEG, BMP, TXT, RTF, HTM, and HTML.

2. You are integrated into the Microsoft ecosystem

The Kindle Scribe has ready-made templates for creating notebooks, journals, and lists. It can also create sticky notes for Microsoft Word documents, which the ReMarkable 2 cannot currently do. Although you can upload documents to the Remarkable 2, you can then only share them in PDF, PNG and SVG format.

From next year, the Kindle Scribe will also have OneDrive integration, so it will be fully integrated into the Microsoft system.

You should buy the ReMarkable 2 if…

1. You want a simple digital notebook

Even if the Kindle Scribe is above all made for taking notes, it also allows you to browse the Internet, beyond reading ebooks. The ReMarkable 2, on the other hand, only allows you to use the internet to send documents and access your Google Drive, OneDrive or DropBox account.

The device is less versatile, it is designed mainly to allow you to take notes and organize your ideas.

2. You want more brush options for note taking

The ReMarkable 2 offers eight different pens for writing. These features, along with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, make it easy to organize your thoughts. You really feel like you’re writing on paper and the pen strokes don’t pixelate.

The stylus also has a tilt-sensing feature, and the tablet can be configured to write with either left or right hand.
