King Charles is attending public appointments again after his cancer diagnosis – and is very happy about it.

King Charles III (75) is pleased to be able to work again. Today, May 9th, he visited a Royal Engineers training base in Surrey. It is one of the first public appearances for the British monarch since his cancer diagnosis at the beginning of the year. “I apologize for catching you off guard, but when this opportunity presented itself and I was let out of my cage, I wanted to come and see it,” he told military members according to “Mirror”.

The royal visit to the training base had only been announced to the facility six days in advance. After being greeted with a salute by officers of the school, King Charles toured the officers’ mess and chatted with the engineers and their families about their experiences training at this location.

King Charles has only been back in public since April

In February, the son of the late Queen Elizabeth (1926-2022) made it public that he was suffering from cancer. To recover from treatment, Charles then took a break from his public duties for several months. He didn’t celebrate his comeback until April 30th. He visited a London cancer treatment center with his wife Queen Camilla (76).

Two weeks ago, the palace announced that doctors were “sufficiently satisfied with the progress made that the king can now resume a number of public duties.” It is not known how long his cancer treatment will last. The type of cancer that the king suffered from is also still not named.
