After King Charles had his cancer treated, he slowly but surely returned to his public duties. A beautiful and strong sign is the first trip abroad that the monarch has now announced since his diagnosis.

He smiles, shakes hands and chats: King Charles, 75, makes a strong impression at the first public appointments he attends after his cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. The monarch appears alongside both Prince William, 41, and Queen Camilla, 76, making it clear how strong the safety net is that his family has offered him – and will continue to offer. It gets even better: The king seems to feel so confident that the British palace was recently able to announce his first foreign trip in a long time.

King Charles and Queen Camilla travel to France

The first trip abroad for the British royal couple is equivalent to the first overseas trip that Charles, who is suffering from cancer, will make. And that in the near future: As the US magazine “People” has learned, Charles and Camilla will travel to Normandy on June 6, 2024. There the couple will take part in the Ministry of Defense and Royal British Legion commemoration at Britain’s Normandy Memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

It was also Queen Camilla who gave a new, albeit brief, health update on her husband at the garden party on May 16: As reporter Roya Nikkhah wrote on her X account (formerly Twitter), the queen declared that Charles was “getting better goes” – and added: “Well, if he behaved appropriately.” Nikkhah did not make it clear whether the monarch was referring to her husband’s busy schedule.

Charles and Camilla are supported by William

Just a day before their trip to France, King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend the United Kingdom’s national commemoration event in Portsmouth along with Prince William, 41, People explains. Portsmouth is located in the south of England, near Southampton. It is conceivable that the royal couple could travel directly to France from there – but the exact plans have not yet been published. On June 6th itself, William will take part in two more events, Princess Anne, 73, Prince Edward, 60, Duchess Sophie, 59, as well as Richard, Duke of Gloucester, 79, and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 77, will also be attending on June 6th June will be traveling on behalf of the Crown to celebrate the anniversary of D-Day.
