King Charles: Brilliant start to his state visit to France

French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed King Charles III. for his postponed state visit to Paris.

Actually wanted to King Charles, 74, traveled to France more than six months ago. But Emmanuel Macron, 45, had to contend with unrest in the capital at the time. Now the state visit has finally worked.

King Charles arrived in Paris on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, along with his wife, Queen Camilla, 76, and was officially and warmly welcomed on the red carpet by Macron and his wife Brigitte, 70. The two first landed at the smaller Paris Orly Airport, where they were met by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, 62.

Camilla wore an elegant pink dress by Fiona Clare and a matching hat by Philip Treacy for the official occasion. As pictures show, she often had to hold it because of the stormy weather. As befits their status, the royal couple was driven from the airport to the city center in a Bentley, where a memorial ceremony and wreath-laying ceremony for the victims of the two world wars took place together with the Macrons at the Triumphal Arch. During the event, fighter jets from both countries thundered in formation over the heads of those present.

Dinner with Mick Jagger and Hugh Grant

Brigitte Macron, 70, chose a slightly more subtle outfit than Camilla. She wore a short blue skirt and a matching jacket. As a greeting, she gave Camilla a friendly kiss on the cheek. On the first evening of the three-day state visit, a dinner reception is planned at the Palace of Versailles, where prominent guests such as Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, 80, and British actor Hugh Grant, 63, are also expected.
