Everything is different at this year’s Easter for the British royal family: Due to her cancer, Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42, will not take part in the traditional Easter service with her family on Sunday, March 31, 2024, in St George’s Chapel in Windsor. For King Charles, 75, who is also suffering from cancer, it will be a scaled-down celebration. According to the Telegraph, the traditional lunch will be canceled. The monarch takes part in the service – but arrives in an unusual dress.

King Charles drives up to the chapel in the Bentley

This time King Charles is not leading his family on foot to the chapel, as is usual tradition. Shortly before the service began, the Sunday edition of the British “Express” had already reported that he and Queen Camilla, 76, would be driven to the door in his maroon Bentley limousine. And that’s how it happened. This is shown by the first recordings in the live stream from “PA Media” on , 16, and Sarah Ferguson, 64, arrive in cars.

Zara Tindall, 42, her husband Mike Tindall, 45, and their children Mia, 10, Lena, 5, Lucas, 3, miss the service. They are due to travel to Thoresby Hall in Nottinghamshire to take part in a three-day equestrian event.

Precautions for Charles

An insider told “Express” in advance that it should be a “gentle” return of the weakened monarch to the public. Charles’ attendance at the service, which Buckingham Palace confirmed to everyone’s delight on March 26, is his first official appearance outside the palace walls since his cancer diagnosis was announced in early February.

There will be further security measures to protect King Charles on Easter Sunday. The royal couple will sit separately from the Royal Family in St George’s Chapel, the Telegraph reported in advance. In addition, the guest list will be smaller and he will forego hosting a lunch afterwards, as is usually the tradition.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is missing

Charles’ daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, is absent from the service. As an insider previously said according to “The Mirror”, Prince Williams, 41, and his family have completely different plans after Kate’s diagnosis: “The family just wants to go away for Easter, spend time together and isolate themselves from the world.”
